Our First Fabulous Friday Favs * YogaGlo
Do you see what I did there with that post title? With the alliteration? All those Fs? That's me. I'm tricky like that. Tricky and crazy. There's yet another crazy weekend ahead of the Callahans, so I'm just going to dive right in, since today is our very first FFF. And I should start off by saying that none of the folks in the photos on today's post are me, but after several years of practice, I can make myself look like them. Well, maybe not the dog.
You may or may not know that I practice a fair amount of yoga. I try to hit at least three classes a week. Sometimes more. Since February, I've only been allowed three forms of exercise, per the doctor: 1) yoga 2) walking my dogs 3) mediation (since when did meditation become exercise? I thought it was the exact opposite of exercise, but when the doc listed off what I could do, that was her third option.)
I've been practicing yoga on and off for almost 15 years. Sometimes at my gym (which today is the Kerr YMCA in Raleigh). Sometimes at a yoga studio (I had one I loved in Atlanta - it was the bomb!). I've had great instructors (all of the teachers at the Y are awesome!). I've had some marginal instructors (some of the true fitness clubs aren't so great at offering things like yoga. I can remember some rough classes at the Bally's Total Fitness I belonged to in Chicago). And I've taken some really out there classes. Usually while on the road traveling somewhere.
I don't travel for work nearly as much as I used to, but I do try to get out of dodge at least once a month for a change of scene. But mainlining my yoga practice can be tough on the road. Sometimes I'm no where near a yoga studio, like last weekend while celebrating my parent's anniversary and our family reunion. And trying to build a "routine" for myself is usually tough. I'm one of those folks that really thrives practicing with an instructor.
That's where YogaGlo comes in. It's like yoga to go. For $18/month, I can access thousands of classes via their website and practice wherever there's an internet connection (which let's face it, is just about everywhere these days). As many classes as I want! It works on my laptop, my iPad and even my iPhone and the classes are taught by real instructors, sometimes with true participants in the classroom being filmed.
You can choose your class by type of yoga (for those of you that are new to yoga, there are several different formats or 'styles'), by teacher, by class duration (only have 15 minutes? They've got yoga for that) or by level (note - I tried a level three class a few weeks ago. Their resting post was handstand in the middle of the room. I am clearly not a level three.). If you find a particular class or instructor you like, you can favorite them and go back anytime you want.
I've used YogaGlo in hotel rooms, on my back porch, in my driveway (my neighbors get a real kick out of that), even outside the country (YogaGlo went with me to London last year). The Hubbs has even taken a course or two with me via YogaGlo. He uses yoga to supplement his swim/bike/run routines so that he's bendier and stays flexible. He's on the road a ton for work, so something like YogaGlo is super handy for folks like him.
So, there you have today's Fab Friday Fav. Our very first one together! You're welcome!
*This is not a paid post, by the way. In fact, the YogaGlo folks have no idea I'm talking about them. You're welcome, YogaGlo folks.
